On Friday, base metal prices advanced despite mixed economic reports in the U.S. and a somewhat stronger dollar. In London, LME official 3-mo. asking prices were firmer across the board this morning including for copper $7,374.50/mt (=$3.345/lb.), aluminum $1,926/mt (=87.4 cents/lb.) and nickel $14,800/mt (=$6.71/lb.), and those gains were extended later in the day. In New York, COMEX Sep copper was up around $3.36/lb. in early afternoon trading as silver futures continued to rally, trading as high as $23.305/to today. But energy prices came under pressure as NYMEX Sep crude oil dropped below $107/bbl and natural gas futures fell 1.4%. On Wall Street, the Dow Industrials and S&P 500 slipped into negative territory in early afternoon trading while the dollar edged up to $1.332 vs. the Euro and 97.60 Japanese Yen…
